The surrounding area
If you’re looking for a slow stay away from the hectic mess that Seminyak is, then Canggu could be just what you’re looking for. Within the past 5 years Canggu has ‘developed’ massively. From white dirt tracks we’ve turned to smooth tarmac pavements, plenty of western cafes, coffee stops, a few beach bars and the odd night life scene. Don’t get us wrong, the balinese culture still stands strong with endless food n drink kakilimas (stalls on wheels), local warungs serving all the local delicious dishes, and of course the infinite spew of beaches along Canggu’s coast.
Canggu’s beaches are mainly black sand, are world renown for their surf spots and are in the best position to sit with your sarong, a beer, and enjoy the magnificent sunsets. The yard is located just a 5 minute drive from Brawa Beach. Other beaches nearby are Batubolong, Echo Beach and Pererenan Beach.
Food n Drink | Makan dan Minum!
You’ll find local dishes such as Nasi Campur (Rice with a mix of different things such as tempe, tofu, rendang (beef), chicken, local veggies, eggs, etc.) You’ll find that other street foods consist of fried rice, fried noodles, noodle soup, different cooking styles of meat and so on. Local dishes vary from Rp.10,000 to Rp.30,000.
When your feeling like you need to be refreshed you can go for an ‘Es Kelapa’ aka Iced Coconut, an Es Jeruk aka Iced Orange, or some other brightly coloured interesting drink kinda things. And when you feel the need for a little comfort food, you’ll find plently of western cafes dotted around. Of course the price range is higher, ranging from Rp.30,000 to Rp.100,000.
Walking in Bali isn’t like walking in Europe. There’s no pavement, you’ll have motorbikes whizzing by you as you attempt to find balance in-between the got and the road, and the heat will have you sweating within minutes. It’s not exactly hell, but nor is it convenient. To enjoy your freedom, your best option for getting around is to rent a motorbike. Scooter’s cost about RP.50,000 a day and RP.500,000 a month ($5 a day – $50 a month). If you wear a helmet and drive slowly, it’ll all be great. There’s also a taxi point just 2 minutes from the yard, and compared to European taxi prices, it’s cheap.
