Please be a traveler, not a tourist. Try new things, meet new people, and look beyond what’s right in front of you. Those are the keys to understanding this amazing world we live in.
Farmer’s Yard is a hostel, and as you know a hostel is always a great place to meet people. We do not provide wi-fi, so unfortunately you’ll be forced to interact with the person beside you as you swap stories of your travels, consider others points of view and open your eyes wider than they’ve ever been.
Interacting with the locals
To make the most of your interaction with the locals, put a little time and effort into learning some of the basics of Bahasa Indonesian. It’s really a simple language, with no past and future tense, it makes it all 3 times easier. The locals REALLY do appreciate the odd Indonesian words you can slip into the conversation, even if your pronunciation is way off. Check out our BLOG for some useful Indonesian basic phrases.
Most evenings we come together to feast on a communal dinner. Whether you’d like to do the food shopping at the local market, be the cook, or do some washing up, everyone has a role. The cost of the ingredients is divided by the amount of people taking part in the dinner.
